Creation and the Fall: Sessions 1 - 3
Session 1: Creation The story of Creation unfolds in the book of Genesis, the order of God’s plan, down to the smallest detail, becomes evident. When we look at the miracle of the universe, the galaxies, the stars, the sun and the moon we can take for granted how they stay in place. When we see the sun rise in the morning, hear all the creatures as they sing to greet the new day and watch the darkness disappear as the first light appears in the sky, the wonder of our Creator is awakened in us. And behind it all we find that everything has an order that comes only from God.
Session 2: The Fall Adam and Eve were happy and content in paradise. However, Satan entered the picture with a message of temptation and doubt. Did God say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’? You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.(Genesis 3: 1,4,5)
This is the primordial lie. Adam and Eve, created in the image of God, were already like God.
Session 3: The Promise of Redemption Jesus is the New Adam and Mary is the New Eve. Through their obedience they will undo the disobedience of Adam and Eve. In the letter to the Romans 5:12-21, Jesus is described as the New Adam: “where all died in Adam, all may be made alive in Christ”. The comparison between Adam and Christ shows a parallel in salvation history between the story of humanity’s first parents and the story of our redemption. Through Mary’s fiat and her obedience to God she becomes the New Eve.
