The jesse Box: "Bible Stories come alive"

Holy Week: Sessions 1 - 3

Holy Week SB 1

Session 1: The Triumphal entry into Jerusalem

The Israelites knew the prophecies about the Messiah, that when he came the lame would walk, the blind would see, and he would raise the dead. They had heard about the miracles that Jesus had performed and were anticipating him as the Messiah who would bring them to freedom.

Session 2: The Crucifixion

Pilate had Jesus take his cross and paraded him to the place of crucifixion. The Romans used crucifixion to terrorize and dissuade others from committing particular crimes. Crucifixion was usually intended to provide a death that was particularly slow and painful as the victim usually died from asphyxiation. This form of execution was only used when a heinous crime was committed yet Jesus was innocent.

Session 3: The Resurrection

“We hold our common assembly on Sunday because it is the first day of the week, the day on which God put darkness and chaos to flight and created the world, and because on that same day our saviour Jesus Christ rose from the dead.”
